Raleigh, NC Transitions Fleet to Renewable Propane for Cleaner Transportation
The city of Raleigh, North Carolina, is making strides in its commitment to environmental sustainability by shifting a portion of its vehicle fleet to run on renewable propane. With nearly half of the city’s total greenhouse gas emissions originating from transportation, reducing vehicle emissions is a pivotal component of Raleigh’s climate action strategy. The city is actively charting a cleaner transportation future, transitioning from fossil fuels to eco-friendly alternatives such as electric vehicles and renewable propane.
Raleigh is inviting the public to celebrate this significant milestone in their pursuit of the Community Climate Action Plan. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, September 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event will occur at the Westinghouse Road fueling station at 2540 Westinghouse Blvd.
The ceremony offers an excellent opportunity for the public to get a firsthand look at some of the vehicles utilizing renewable propane. Attendees will also have the chance to explore other electric and clean energy vehicles within Raleigh’s fleet.
In addition to this, Vehicle Fleet Services, the Office of Sustainability, and Raleigh Arts recently unveiled a captivating “Clean Energy Mural.” This mural raises awareness regarding the city’s transition to clean energy. The artwork will be a highlight of the event, and the artist behind it will be present to provide insights into his creative work. Notably, Vehicle Fleet Services has received recognition as the 2023 #1 fleet in the nation for its innovative approach to climate action and clean energy.
The celebration has garnered sponsorship from various organizations that share the city’s commitment to sustainable transportation. These include the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), Blossman Gas & Appliance, Southeast Propane Alliance (SEPA), and Triangle Clean Cities. Together, they are supporting Raleigh’s journey towards a cleaner and greener future in transportation.
