GI Partners Closes Otodata Majority Deal, More Than 3.5 Million Tanks

Otodata Has a New Majority Owner. Check the Contract on Your Tank Monitors.

For dealers who route trucks off Otodata readings, the deal Otodata announced September 1, 2026 is a change of control at the company named in your service agreement. Your next contract will be signed with a new majority owner behind the vendor. Here is what to check in your monitor agreement before your next renewal.

The Situation

Switch monitor vendors and your tank history may stay behind. If your auto-fill routes and dispatch software run on Otodata readings, the company behind them now has a new majority owner.

Otodata said in a September 1, 2026 PR Newswire release that private investment firm GI Partners has closed a majority investment in the company, with Renovo Capital and management keeping a minority stake. Otodata says its monitors sit on more than 3.5 million tanks. Financial terms were not disclosed, LP Gas Magazine reports.

The Facts

Otodata was founded in Montreal in 2010 and builds remote monitoring hardware and software for tank assets, according to the release. It also runs Tag Tracking, a vehicle-tracking and stolen-vehicle recovery business on its own network in Canada.

"We're excited to welcome GI Partners as our new majority partner," said Jeremy Eaton, CEO of Otodata. He said GI Partners' experience with Internet of Things businesses will help Otodata better serve current and new customers and speed its expansion into new verticals.

Neither Otodata nor GI Partners has said anything about propane priorities. Ask your rep whether propane monitoring stays the core product under the new owner.

Business Impact

Neither the release nor LP Gas Magazine's report says whether pricing or existing customer contracts will change, and neither addresses data access under the new owner. Before your renewal:

  1. 1.Pull your Otodata monitor agreement and find the term length and automatic-renewal date.
  1. 1.Confirm in writing whether you own the installed monitor hardware, or whether it stays with Otodata if you switch vendors.
  1. 1.Check whether the contract says your dispatch or back-office integration continues.
  1. 1.Ask how to export your historical tank-level readings under the contract you have now.

Competitive Advantage

A dealer who has read the contract before the new owner sets terms can price a switch or a renewal on their own schedule. Start this week: pull your Otodata agreement and put the auto-renewal date on your calendar.

If you switch vendors at renewal, your tank history and the sensors on your customers' tanks may not come with you. Do you know whether you or your monitor vendor owns them? Check your agreement this week.
