When a Homeowner Asks AI Who Delivers Propane

The Situation

A homeowner two towns over has a tank at a quarter and a furnace that has started to cough. She opens ChatGPT or a tool like it on her phone and types: who delivers propane near me?
The assistant answers in a paragraph, names a few companies, and she calls the first one. A dealer left out of that paragraph never hears about the call.
The Facts
How the answer gets built
Assistants draw on what they can find about a business online: its website, its Google Business Profile, reviews and directory listings. None of them publishes how it chooses, so what follows is our working view. Clear, consistent facts are easier for any system to use than mismatched phone numbers, thin town pages or unanswered reviews.
We have no published number for how often assistants recommend a given dealer. A dealer can still check where it stands.
The free check
The AI visibility audit shows how your company appears to the answer engines today. It takes a few minutes and costs nothing.
Why this connects to cost
Bill Stomp, who ran 87 offices in 12 states, argues that costs are rising across the board: insurance, claims, and the price of getting to court. CIAB's Q2 2026 survey found umbrella premiums up 5.3% and commercial auto up 4.5% while overall commercial premiums fell 2%. When fixed costs go up, a dealer can spend less or earn more per customer.
In most propane offices, marketing is a job nobody has time for. Bill's view is that much of it can be automated and simplified, and that a stronger online reputation supports better margins.
The marketing system is built for that job. It drafts Google Business Profile posts and review replies, writes blog articles for propane customers, runs text and email sequences, and shapes content to help these tools find the company. The owner approves every message before it goes out. It makes no promise about rankings or customer counts.
Run the audit first. If your company is missing from the paragraph, book a 30-minute look at what the system would change.
