Google Pulls the Q&A List From Maps; Ask Maps Now Answers Customers From Your Profile

Ask Maps is rolling out in the U.S. and India, with Search expansion indicated but not dated.

The Situation

A propane dealer's answers about delivery area, tank rental terms and payment options still matter on Google, but customers no longer scroll a public list of them. Google has pulled the Q&A section from the front of Business Profiles in Maps. In its place, the AI-powered Ask button gives a shopper an instant answer based on the business's answers and relevant reviews, Search Engine Roundtable reported.

The Facts

Search Engine Roundtable quoted product specialist Dan Boguslavsky's post in the Business Profiles Help Forums. As Q&A grew, he wrote, "it has become more difficult for customers to wade through all the questions and find timely answers to the specific question they have".

Owners can keep answering existing questions in the Q&A section of their profile, and can answer aggregated customer questions that Google then uses to respond to similar questions in Maps. He added that published questions and answers will keep informing what the company knows about a business and "may be shown in Maps".

The retreat has been gradual. Google launched Q&A in Maps in 2017, Search Engine Roundtable notes. North County Digital, a local SEO agency, reports that Google announced in September 2025 it would discontinue the My Business Q&A API and shut it off on November 3, 2025.

Google's Keyword blog describes Ask Maps as a way to get questions answered conversationally inside Maps, rolling out in the U.S. and India on Android and iOS. North County Digital says Google has indicated the feature will expand to Search. Google has not said how quickly a profile edit shows up in an Ask Maps answer.

Business Impact

For a dealer, the profile itself is now the FAQ. Ask Maps answers from what you have already put there and from what customers say in reviews, so gaps in your service list or unanswered owner questions leave the AI less to work with.

What this means for your business: 1. Owner answers are still worth keeping current, because they can shape what Maps tells customers. 2. Reviews are part of the answer, so their content matters as much as their count. 3. Planting keyword-stuffed questions for visibility no longer has a public list to live in.

Key Data Points

  • Q&A in Google Maps: launched 2017.
  • My Business Q&A API: discontinued November 3, 2025, per North County Digital.

Key Takeaways

  • Reviews are part of the material Ask Maps answers from.
  • Google has not said how fast a profile edit reaches an Ask Maps answer.

Action Steps

  1. 1.Open the Q&A section of your Business Profile this week and update any answer about delivery area, tank rental or payment that is out of date.
  2. 2.Answer the aggregated customer questions Google shows you there, since Google uses those answers for similar questions in Maps.
  3. 3.Check that your listed services and hours match what your office tells callers.
  4. 4.Reply to recent reviews that ask or answer a common customer question, so the answer customers see reflects your actual policy.

Competitive Advantage

A dealer who keeps profile answers and the service list current gives Google accurate material to answer with.
