How Does a Propane Company Get More Google Reviews?

Direct answer: Ask every customer, right after the delivery or service call, while the visit is fresh. A short text or email with a direct link to your Google profile works best. Answer every review, good or bad, in your own words. Reviews that describe the work, not just the company, tend to be the ones that bring calls.

Why reviews matter for a propane company

Propane is bought locally. Someone new to town, or a customer whose supplier let them run out, searches for a dealer nearby and looks at the profile before dialing. Your star rating, how many reviews you have and whether you answer them sit right there in front of that buyer. An unanswered one-star review can be read by any customer who checks you before they call.

The ask: when and how

  1. Ask right after the visit. The day of a delivery or a service call is when the customer remembers it. A request weeks later reads like a form letter.
  2. Keep it short. One or two sentences and one link that opens your Google review box. Every extra step costs you reviews.
  3. Text or email, only to customers who agreed to hear from you. Send it to your own customers, and build in the opt-out.
  4. Ask everyone. Asking only the customers you expect to be happy is review gating, and it is a bad habit even when it feels harmless.
  5. Don't offer anything for a review. Ask, thank them, move on.

The reply: every review, in your voice

  • Good review: Thank them by first name and mention something specific, like the same-day fill. It shows the next reader a real person answers.
  • Bad review: Reply calmly and briefly, say what you will do, and offer to talk offline. Do not argue on the page. The reply is written for the next customer reading it, not the reviewer.
  • Reply to all of them. An unanswered review reads as nobody minding the office.

What good propane reviews sound like

The reviews that sell propane are about the work: kept us full all winter, came out the same day, no surprise fees. You cannot script a customer's words, but you can make it easy for the customers who feel that way to say so.

Who does this work

Most dealers know all this and still do not do it, because the office is busy with deliveries. In PIMS, review requests, reply drafts and the count and rating for each location are one of six parts of the marketing department:

  • After a delivery or service call, the customer gets a short review request by text or email, only customers who agreed to hear from you.
  • A reply is drafted for every new review, and you approve each one before it posts.
  • Review count and rating are tracked for each location.
  • There is no review gating, and nothing publishes without your approval.

Straight answers

Should I ask every customer for a review? Yes. Ask everyone, not only the ones you think will be happy.

Who approves the reply to a review in PIMS? You do. A reply is drafted for you, and it does not post until you approve it.

Who gets the review request? Your own customers who agreed to hear from you, with an opt-out built in.
