Propane Equipment Manufacturers Discuss Trends and Challenges in the Industry

The propane industry faces several challenges, including supply chain disruptions, an aging workforce, and new federal emissions regulations. However, there are also some positive trends, such as increasing demand for propane and the development of new technologies.

Supply Chain Challenges

One of the propane industry’s biggest challenges is supply chain disruption. This has made getting parts and equipment more difficult, leading to longer lead times and higher prices.

“We have encountered some challenges, particularly in chassis procurement,” said Ryan Eidsness, director of sales and marketing for TerraVest Industries and USA Compressed Gas. “Some parts’ availability can be inconsistent, resulting in occasional difficulties acquiring them.”

Aging Workforce

Another challenge facing the propane industry is the aging workforce. As the baby boomers retire, a shortage of workers to fill these jobs has emerged. This is making it difficult for propane marketers to keep up with demand.

“The biggest challenge our customers face today is employee shortages,” said Marla Verlinde, sales and marketing at Arrow Tank & Engineering. “More decision-makers are getting their drivers involved during the buying process to combat this.”

New Federal Emissions Regulations

The propane industry is also facing new federal emissions regulations. These regulations will require propane equipment to be more fuel-efficient and produce fewer emissions. “We are seeing more customers use propane-powered vehicles as autogas availability increases,” said Eidsness. “It’ll be interesting to see how this changes in the future.”

New Features for Equipment

To meet the needs of their customers, propane equipment manufacturers are adding new features to their products. These features include:

• More comfortable and convenient cabs
• Advanced safety features
• Labor-saving equipment
• Environmentally friendly technology
