Washington State Voters Uphold Energy Choice, Rejecting Anti-Gas Policies
On November 5, Washington state voters decisively passed Citizen Ballot Initiative No. 2066, marking a significant victory for energy choice. The initiative, supported by a coalition including the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA), prevents the state from banning or limiting natural gas and propane usage in residential and commercial buildings. This outcome empowers consumers to choose their preferred energy sources without government restrictions.
The vote reflects a broader resistance against anti-gas policies, sending a message to other states about the importance of preserving energy options. This win aligns Washington with 26 other states that have implemented similar “energy choice laws.” The NPGA played a crucial role in mobilizing support, delivering over half a million signatures for the ballot and advocating for voter education.
While opponents may pursue legal challenges, NPGA remains committed to defending this outcome. The initiative’s success underscores voters’ desire for flexibility in energy usage, taking into account the vital components of cost, resilience, and emissions.
